SHOW MUST GO ON – Reopening and inauguration of the new stage technology at the DRESDEN PLAYHOUSE
At the end of October 2016, the Dresden Playhouse celebrated the resumption of its theatre programme with new and modern stage technology. During an extended summer break, the entire building was renovated and the roof and stage structures were upgraded so that they can support considerably larger loads.
At the end of October 2016, the Dresden Playhouse celebrated the resumption of its theatre programme with new and modern stage technology. During an extended summer break, the entire building was renovated and the roof and stage structures were upgraded so that they can support considerably larger loads.
In addition to the existing lacing floor in the upper belt level of the existing timber framework (with a span of approx. 32.8 m and a height of approx. 5 m), a new lacing floor level was installed in the lower belt plane to allow for the flexible use of the stage technology. This resulted in a spatial bearing effect, and so it was designed to enable considerably higher requirements of stage technology. On top of that, many additional steel components had to be installed, many rivets had to be replaced by ball screws, and the nodes of the truss had to be supplemented. It should be emphasised that all measures had to be carried out in precisely defined mounting sections without any stress on the design.
In addition, new steel substructures were mounted for the installation of new stage equipment, additional work galleries were arranged, and existing galleries were expanded and upgraded.
The greatest challenges lay in the geometrical boundary conditions of the inventory, the interplay of the stage systems and supporting construction, and the temporal sequence during the different planning phases.
KREBS+KIEFER planned the load bearing capacity in Phases 2 to 6.
