New locks on the Dortmund-Ems Canal Bevergern,Rodde,Venhaus,Hesselte,Gleesen
The Dortmund-Ems Canal connects the Ruhr area to the sea ports of Bremen and Hamburg via the Rhine-Herne-Canal and the Wesel-Datteln-Canal. It is divided into the southern section (Datteln to Bergeshövede) and the northern section (Bergeshövede to Emden). The northern section overcomes a 29-metre rise on a length of approximately 30 km by means of six locks, and is the connection between the Mittelland Canal and the Ems.
