KREBS+KIEFER was present at the World Congress of Inland Waterways from 30 September to 3 October in Lyon. Under the direction of PIANC, almost 400 experts from 34 nations met for professional exchange.

Waterways are among the most sustainable and resource-saving transport routes worldwide: a single container ship on inland waterways can replace up to 400 trucks, for example. KREBS+KIEFER is strongly involved in civil engineering works in the field of hydraulic engineering for waterways, both nationally and internationally. Conference participation by Dr. Matthias Schäfers, CEO of IRS Stahlwasserbau Consulting AG in the KREBS+KIEFER Group, and Eric Fischer, Managing Director of KREBS+KIEFER International, was therefore obligatory.

Around 170 presentations offered the best opportunity for expert exchange and professional networking. Prof. Dr. Jan Akkermann, Managing Director of KREBS+KIEFER Ingenieure, presented the latest developments from a current research focus of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences for the assessment of structural robustness in the context of maintenance management.

KREBS+KIEFER can look back on a wealth of experience in the planning and implementation of waterway structures - both new constructions and maintenance projects - and will communicate the findings to the experts. Dr. Schäfers and Prof. Akkermann are therefore also involved in PIANC working groups on waterways.
