KREBS+KIEFER wins tender for EÜ Beckerbrücke (Chemnitztal viaduct)

The planned replacement construction of the EÜ Beckerbrücke bridge in Chemnitz - known as the Chemnitztal viaduct -, which requires a complete dismantling of the existing structure, had been rejected by the Federal Railway Authority in the course of the planning approval procedure. By reasons of this negative decision, the planning service was put out to tender again.

The existing railway viaduct was built between 1902 and 1906 as a riveted steel bridge. It consists of 4 superstructures and spans 12 openings with 2 arches and 10 beam fields over a total length of approx. 270 m. Preliminary investigations showed overloads and a considerably limited remaining useful life for the listed building.

The KREBS+KIEFER bidding consortium was able to prevail against its competitors in a Europe-wide competition for the planning services.

The project was acquired in cooperation of the locations Darmstadt, Berlin, Erfurt and Dresde.

The services of KREBS+KIEFER include the object planning of the traffic facility as well as the object and structural design of the civil engineering.
