In order to connect two existing schools, the Sigmund-Schuckert-Gymnasium and the Peter-Henlein-Realschule, one of the largest schools in the Land will be built in Nuremberg. The new Southwest School Centre will accommodate over 2300 pupils.

Sufficient space must be planned for such a number of pupils. There will be two large sports halls, a grammar school and an intermediate secondary school. In addition, a community house shall serve as a meeting place for all pupils. The building will be constructed according to modern pedagogical concepts, so that good learning conditions are guaranteed for the pupils.

33 architectural studios took part in the competition. The jury, which consisted of experts, municipal officers and city consultants, has chosen Staab Architekten as the winner.

A three-stage selection procedure was carried out for the building physics. Stage 1 involved 14 engineering offices, five of which were allowed to prove themselves in a personal presentation on the next level. KREBS+KIEFER emerged as the winner from the Europe-wide competition and can now take on the exciting major project for the city of Nuremberg.

KREBS+KIEFER's services include building physics, thermal insulation, building and room acoustics, and pollutants control.
