On 31 August 2018 the railway club “Allianz pro Schiene” nominated the new railway station in Eppstein for the train station of the year. KREBS+KIEFER performed the object planning (transportation facilities and civil engineering structures) as well as the design of the structural framework; they are proud to be part of this successful project.

The trigger for the renovation of the Eppstein railway station was the rerouting of the railway line Frankfurt - Eschhofen, which had become necessary because of the Eppstein tunnel new construction project. The new platforms, including their new roofs and facilities, integrate seamlessly into the railway station and produce tangible added value for the customers. The pedestrian underpass was made accessible for individuals with disabilities and received two elevators. Along with making the facilities accessible to individuals with disabilities, the city of Eppstein pursued the goal, together with the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV), of optimally linking the various modes of public transportation at the railway station, for pedestrian, bicycle and motor vehicle traffic.

Two Park+Ride facilities with covered parking for bicycles and motorbikes were realized. The Park+Ride facility on the south side now has 200 parking spaces and 7 Kiss+Ride spaces, separated by landscape features. In addition, same-level access to the outside platforms is now possible. The bus terminal is located on the north side and now allows the direct door-to-door transfer from bus to train.

The more than 100-year-old station entrance building harmoniously complements the appearance of the train station, offering a waiting lounge for the passengers, a citizens' information office and a restaurant.
