U4 TO THE ELBBRÜCKEN OPENED

On 9 December 2018, the line section under construction since 2014 was connected to the network of the elevated railway in Hamburg. The extension of the underground line 4 to the Elbe bridges costs 33 million euros less than planned.

On 9 December 2018, the line section under construction since 2014 was connected to the network of the elevated railway in Hamburg. The extension of the underground line 4 to the Elbe bridges costs 33 million euros less than planned.

Instead of the 178 million euros, the 1.3 km section between the station HafenCity University and the new Elbbrücken stop could be realised for 145 million euros.

The overall structure of the U4 tunnel Baakenhafen and the trough at Baakenwerder Straße to be planned by KREBS+KIEFER is an approximately 710 m long framed tunnel structure and an approximately 230 m long framed trough structure as a construction in waterproof concrete. The line will be double-track along its entire length.

In this project, KREBS+KIEFER Erfurt, in cooperation with grbv Ingenieure Hannover, successfully developed the implementation planning and optimisation of the structures.

A follow-up project at Hamburger Hochbahn is also in progress. The colleagues from Darmstadt, Berlin and Erfurt are currently planning together the feasibility study for U5, another challenging and exciting task.
