On 16 July 2015, our student colleague Mr Sven Brucker, B. Eng. and two of his fellow students, received the award from the Board of Governors at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz; in the former’s case, for the 1.0 grade he received for his Bachelor’s thesis.

This award has now been received six times by students for their exceptional achievements. There is a large number of possible participants. However, each faculty at the university may put forward a maximum of two theses. Two of this year’s winners are representatives of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

This award recognises theses and study projects of outstanding academic or artistic quality. The winner of the award should also be involved with the social or political life of the university. Mr Brucker’s paper dealt with “Hybrid node design for the connection of log cross-sections in bridge construction”.

We would like to congratulate Mr Brucker for this exceptional work and we very much look forward to him joining the team in Mainz.
