On November 15th 2017, as part of the lecture series “structure_architecture” at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Dipl.-Ing. Bartlomiej Halaczek of Knight Architects and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jan Akkermann presented the special features of the current bridge project in Ulm to an audience of students and experts.

Whilst Bartlomiej Halaczek highlighted the significance of the sensitive area of tension for the bridge design caused by the historic surroundings coupled with a high-volume traffic junction, Jan Akkermann, a member of the teaching staff at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and Managing Director at KREBS+KIEFER, traced the logical form of the bridge support structure.

The public transport bridge, with its pedestrian and cycle paths, has been under construction since 2015.Its combination of form and function set a shining example for the theme of the lecture series. Knight Architects and KREBS+KIEFER have been part of a consortium for public services in Ulm since 2012, handling all phases of design planning and structural engineering.
