Punctually, with the approaching 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in November of 2014, the renovation and extension of the documentation centre on Bernauer Strasse is completed.

KREBS+KIEFER added the inventory assessment for the earlier community hall of the Church of Reconciliation, the renovation planning for the former exposed concrete construction of the outer walls and the structural engineering for the extension of the exhibition area to this building measure.

In the context of this construction measure, the available spolia, among other things, of the Church of Reconciliation that was blown up in 1985, on the former border strip between West and East Berlin, was secured and integrated into the exhibition area.

In preparation for the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the extension of the tram route, which formerly ended near the documentation centre, from the eastern part of the city to the main station, is currently being carried out.

As a part of the construction measure, a tram station with a lightweight concrete roof shell that transfers its weight over rigid linked steel uprights in a bridge-like supporting structure over the two tunnel tubes of the U5 and S21, is being constructed north of the main station.

KREBS+KIEFER carried out the construction testing for this construction measure.
