The official opening ceremony for the campus of Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe took place on 25th April 2013. The facilities of the university were previously located in different places around the town and have now been brought together at CampusOne near Gottesaue castle. Among the new buildings, the multimedia complex is conspicuous due to its design and size.

In his speech, Dr. Nils Schmid, Deputy Minister-President and Minister of Finance and Economics of the state of Baden-Württemberg, mentioned the outstanding importance of this university for the state. Mr. Jürgen Walter, Political State Secretary to the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the state of Baden-Württemberg, outlined the impressive development of the university. This was followed by speeches by city mayor Dr. Frank Mentrup and by the rector of the university, Professor Hartmut Höll. Mr. Günter Bachmann of the department for assets and construction of the state of Baden-Württemberg represented the owners of the complex.

The multimedia complex was designed by Stuttgart architects Architekten.3P and is very interesting from an architectural viewpoint. Its completion of marks a further milestone in the development of the internationally renowned Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. The building can be used not only for traditional concerts and musical theater but also for multimedia concerts and studio work. The technical facilities include a 20 m high stage tower. The large room with the stage seats an audience of 400. The northern part is designed as an institute building and also accommodates the LernRadio institute.

The building mainly consists of a reinforced concrete construction, but the wide-span ceilings and roof structure are designed as steel lattice constructions. Complex glass and ceramic façade elements and plaster base façades form the exterior of the building. A separate permit was required for the ceramic façades because of the special profiled tiles that were used.

The checking engineer for this project was Dr. Retzepis, a managing partner of KREBS+KIEFER.
