New ship lift at the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River in China
A new ship lift using the counterbalance principle is to be built to transport passenger ships past the gigantic Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River in China.
Construction of the foundation slab started in November 2007.
The Chinese owners plan to put the new ship lift - which will be the world's largest - into operation in 2013 / 2014.
