After the end of the existing provisional arrangements for the Technical Town Hall dating from 1967 and the excavation of the construction pit, 18 March 2015 saw the laying of the foundation stone in the Stühlinger district of Freiburg, in glorious sunshine, for the first construction phase of the new administrative centre in Freiburg.

In the design by Düsseldorf-based architect Christoph Ingehoven, the new five-storey building will accommodate, when it is completed at the end of 2016, 840 employees from 13 different departments of the city of Freiburg in a central and modern workplace. At a cost of almost EUR 80 million, the new building is currently the largest urban construction project.

The Mayor of Freiburg, Dr Salomon, described in his speech in front of 500 invited guests the basic concept of the project and the benefits of the new administrative centre for the city's employees and citizens. In addition to the easy to access location not far from the central railway station at the intersection of two tramways, the administrative centre will in future house all the city's administrative contact points.

In conclusion, Dr Salomon announced a decision in principle will be made next year at the latest regarding the second construction phase. In the presence of the architect, Christoph Ingehoven, City Councillor for Building and Construction Dr Haag as well as other dignitaries of the city of Freiburg, a golden casket was lowered into the foundations of the building.

Alongside the work on the new administrative centre building, work will begin in April 2015 on the building of the associated children's daycare facilities.

KREBS+KIEFER is providing the health and safety services for both buildings in the planning and implementation phase.
