With the integration of Ingenieurbüro Rapsch und Schubert Stahlwasserbau Consulting GmbH (IRS), Würzburg, into the K+K group of companies, KREBS+KIEFER has further extended its range of services and increased its presence in Bavaria.

The company, founded in 1996 by Dipl.-Ing. Hans Rapsch, has become one of Germany’s leading engineering consultancies for hydraulic steel construction. In addition to typical areas of activity such as locks and weirs, the company is also involved in the planning and construction of ship lifts, movable bridges and hydroelectric power plants. It provides planning and management services not only for civil engineering but also for mechanical engineering, e.g. for drives.

IRS has been working in partnership with KREBS+KIEFER since 2003, for instance on the ship lifts at Niederfinow and at the Three Gorges Dam, on locks at Aldingen, Hessigheim and Pleidelsheim, on the flood protection gate at Ladenburg on the River Neckar and currently on a weir on the River Main in Würzburg. Further outstanding projects in which the company is currently involved include the Kaiserschleuse lock at Bremerhaven, the fifth lock on the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, the Kattwyk vertical lift bridge in Hamburg and a variety of locks on the Dortmund-Ems Canal.

Since 1st July 2012, the company has been a member of the K+K group which is owned by KREBS+KIEFER & Partner GbR (KKP). With his many years of experience and outstanding competence in hydraulic steel construction, Mr. Rapsch will continue to be available to IRS as a managing partner. Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Wirtsch.-Ing. Matthias Schäfers will continue to lead the company as a managing director and will also become a partner in KKP.

Together with IRS, KREBS+KIEFER can now offer a full range of services in wide areas of hydraulic steel construction and thus continue to expand its Germany-wide presence in this field, which has been steadily growing in recent years.
