It’s all systems go on the A 10!
On 7 October 2015, the stretch of the A 10 Nordring state motorway around metropolitan Berlin, which has now been expanded to six lanes, was opened to traffic. Since mid-2009, around EUR 65 million has been spent on this section of the state motorway, which is a good 5 km long.
On 7 October 2015, the stretch of the A 10 Nordring state motorway around metropolitan Berlin, which has now been expanded to six lanes, was opened to traffic. Since mid-2009, around EUR 65 million has been spent on this section of the state motorway, which is a good 5 km long.
A total of four structures were dismantled, considerably widened and then reconstructed. For the protection of local residents, the motorway has been equipped with new noise protection barriers, up to 7.50 m high, over a total length of more than 3 km. In addition, a rainwater treatment facility has been constructed near this stretch of the motorway, in which the accumulating surface water will be purified before drainage.
An integral component of the construction project has been an extensive cluster of landscape management measures.
In order to compensate for the encroachment into nature and the environment necessitated by the expansion to six lanes, numerous trees and groves have been planted, both in the area around the motorway and also as part of a buffer area away from the motorway. These activities also include the transformation of former mili-tarised zones away from the highway and the conversion of former bunkers into accommodation for bats.
The active and passive noise-reduction measures and the low-noise implementation of the highway surface will also contribute substantially to an improvement in the prevailing noise load.
