On 28 March 2017, architects, planners and those involved in planning met in the Hugenottenhalle in Neu-Isenburg at the Hessen Fire Protection Day so as to discuss current themes in planned fire protection. The expert management and moderation was provided by Professor Dr Ulrich Dietmann, Managing Director of KREBS + KIEFER Ingenieure GmbH, Darmstadt.

What has changed with regard to the law, regulations, guidelines and standards relating to preventive fire safety? What requirements are derived from intelligent fire safety concepts? What challenges will fire protection planners face in the future? How does first-class and innovative architecture succeed, taking into account building law and fire safety aspects?

German construction law is subject to far-reaching changes regarding the use of construction products and building types due to a decision of the European Court of Justice. These have an effect on the new Hessen Building Ordinance as well as the future technical building regulations, which are transferred into an administrative provision. The participants learnt at first-hand the current state of development.

This year's Fire Protection Day is also a sign of the current challenges for preventive fire protection as they are generated, for example, by demographic change or housing densification. Moreover, aspects of fire protection in the sale of property or in heritage protection are discussed.

The congress also offers the opportunity to expand the personal network and to make contacts with experts from the relevant ministries, building authorities, fire brigades and planners.
