Opening of the bypass

Güterfelde bypass goes into operation a year early

After only three years of construction - one year earlier than planned - the Güterfelde bypass was opened to traffic on 16th December 2013. This 3,9 km long four-lane road not only reduces the through traffic burden on the surrounding communities, but also forms an important component of the connection between Potsdam and the future Berlin Brandenburg International Airport.

In addition to difficult ground conditions with peat subsoil, crossing the Harte Fenn nature protection area was a special challenge. The area was spanned by a 150 m long pre-stressed concrete bridge which was constructed using the incremental launching method in order to minimize the environmental impact. Two composite steel bridges, another pre-stressed concrete bridge and several retaining walls were also constructed, as well as noise protection and screening walls.

In the Güterfelde bypass project, KREBS+KIEFER led a consortium with asphalta which was responsible for services in the areas of contract management, local construction supervision and health and safety, and in claims management.
