Until December 2018, the existing bridge, dating from 1962, will be closed to traffic and rebuilt.

A particular challenge is presented by the very high daily traffic load using the Hanau secondary road as the primary axis in the direction of the city centre. The intention is that the demolition of the existing bridge structure and the construction of the new one should cause as little disruption as possible to the flow of cars, the dock railway and tram lines.
