A modern administrative building with 300 work positions, accessible to all citizens, is to be erected at the Durchlacher Alle with a designated gross floor space of 10,300 m². In terms of urban planning, this six-storey tie will mark a new connector axis between the College of Music in the South and the quarters of the East-city. Senior mayor Dr. Frank Mentrup emphasised the excitement of the City of Karlsruhe about the jointly developed site after much “wrestling” with regional government authorities. Gisela Splett, State Minister in the Department of Finance, con-firmed the State of Baden-Württemberg’s satisfaction with the solution found - both with regard to urban development as well as the design.

The underground carpark turned out to present more than just an ordinary challenge for the planners KREBS+KIEFER; two storeys below the ground, they hit the groundwater level, and then the finely structured, double-shelled and supporting façade made of “architectural concrete” modular parts added to the test of their skills. KREBS+KIEFER is responsible not only for the building’s entire structural framework but also for the design of the watertight excavation pit.
