On 19 September 2018 KREBS+KIEFER hosted at its Darmstadt location the first „PlusPunkt Brandschutz“ event. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Dietmann and Mr. Benjamin Semmler presented current information on the topic of fire protection through prevention. Almost 30 people participated, among them architects, engineers and representatives of builders.

The seminar’s focus was the current changes affecting fire safety with an effectiveness date of the Hessischen Bauordnung (HBO), the Hessian building regulations, on 7 July 2018.

First order and in the foreground was the interaction between the building regulations and the new H-VVTB (Hessian Bylaw Technical Building Code) and also the updated decrees concerning required building documentation.

This was followed by select explanations to regulatory changes of the HBO, such as the building classification, requirements for escape routes or the differentiation between standard and special purpose buildings.

During the introduction of the new approach examples were given for building inspection requirements, fire behavior of building materials and building components from the HBO, and then on to the classification of building products according to the H-VVTB.

Another section explained how to select suitable local building products or construction designs as well as the use of European building products, all based on case studies.

All participants agreed on the fact that the new regulations created opportunities, e.g. for selecting new construction materials, but that alone would also add new qualification requirements for all involved in the construction project and construction management. KREBS+KIEFER has therefore decided to offer “building product management” services as one of their future consultancy offerings in the preventive fire protection sector.

KREBS+KIEFER wants to create added value for their clientele with PlusPunkt events through the transfer of information and full use of their expertise; in the future these will likely be offered for other sectors as well.
