Construction phase two of the combined Karlsruhe solution started on 26 August and lasted through 9 September 2018; the construction zone was between the Kronenplatz and Rüppurrer Tor, via the streets Haid-and-Neustrasse as well as Waldstadt and Spöck.

First, the connection of the new tracks with the existing tramway network was to be completed during this period so that the "East-West axis" between the Kronenplatz and Tullastraße stations could be used again.
One detour will persist though during this phase, tram line 2, as well as S4, S7 and S8 via the southeast line, because the pending construction of the tunnel section directly below the Mendelsohn plaza is extremely complex due to this very busy intersection. The auxiliary / provisional bridges of this construction project are rather extraordinary: They are more than 24 meters long and 19 meters wide and 60-ton building elements are delivered in one piece and are designed to be later removed again and transported away.

Preliminary work is needed to prepare for this step, which resulted in the detours and diversions for the road users.

Railway operations in the Haid and Neustrasse is completely suspended until after vacation time (9 September), because work on the disability accessibility of the station at central railway station and the replacement work at the switch and crossings system at the Hagsfeld branch have not been completed.
