Combination solution in Karlsruhe: Railway stations are getting new interiors

Additional benefits are becoming apparent as a result of the combined solution Karlsruhe, which will be connecting the transportation companies Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe (VBK) and Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) in the future. The seven underground stations will now be equipped with new interiors and completion should be forthcoming soon.

The Congress Center and Durlacher Tor stations have made great progress with their special wall treatments. The craftsmen currently are working towards the Kronenplatz and Europaplatz stations, treating the vast spaces one square meter at a time. For the individual wall murals the top 2 to 3mm of the concrete wall surfaces are scraped off so that a rough surface texture is created on the otherwise smooth concrete walls.

Escalators and elevators assembly continues at the Durlacher Tor and Kronenplatz stations not only in terms of realizing the design, but also completing the actual installations.

Thus the shell can be considered complete at almost all the stations.

The basic structure of the auto tunnel section at the F2 site between Ritter- and Lammstraße is also complete so that we can expect to remove the last crane from there in the next few weeks. Drilling templates are currently being created between Lammstraße and Ettlinger Tor (construction site W3). Walls, which are to secure the tunnel walls towards the outside, are set up after the excavations.

At the O2 construction site to the west and east of the Mendelssohnplatz, on up to the junction of Kapellen- into Kriegsstraße or alternatively Ludwig-Erhard Allee, provisional lanes and a temporary intersection are set up to hold the incoming and turn lane traffic, which went back into operation on 24 August.

The first final results could be presented on 26 August. The track work at the Durlacher Tor has advanced to the point that the east-west axis between Kronplatz and Gottesauer Platz can be made operational at that time with the connector to the north-east to follow two weeks later.

The current construction site journal for checking on any further developments can be found at the Website of the Kombilösung [website for the combined solution].
