After just six months of construction time, the breakthrough of the Herrschaftsbuck Tunnel was celebrated in bright sunshine on the A 98 motorway near the northern tube. KREBS+KIEFER provided the safety and health coordination during the execution phase of this project.

The Herrschaftsbuck Tunnel in the fourth section between Rheinfelden and Bad Säckingen is important for the completion of the four-lane expansion of the A98 motorway. In the future, the Minseln/ Karsau junction will exist here at the so-called Hochrein motorway.

The 480 m long tunnel tubes were dug out by excavator and blasting. The breakthrough of the parallel-running southern tubes is planned for the end of February 2018. The construction of the tunnel inner shell of the southern tubes is occurring at the same time.

The work was carried out around the clock in three-shift operation. Up to 120 employees were present on site at some times. Despite the inherent hazards, there were no major accidents.

At the start of the festivities, Claus Walther, department president of Roads and Traffic at the Freiburg Regional Commission, welcomed all those present. The administrative president and tunnel sponsor Bärbel Schäfer praised the quick, good and reliable work of the miners and the executing construction group. This group consists of the companies BeMo Tunneling and Subterra, the planners and all others involved in the construction. Helmut Göhringer, managing director of BeMo Tunneling carrying out the construction, highlighted the very good work success when constructing the tunnel. After a joint festival service, everyone celebrated together in the festival tent.

The Herrschaftsbuck Tunnel is expected to be completed in June 2019.
