On 11 October the 6th Young Engineers Colloquium of the German and Polish group of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering, IABSE for short, took place in Berlin. KREBS+KIEFER was represented with a contribution from the field of composite construction.

Mrs. Mareike von Arnim, M. Sc., KREBS+KIEFER Ingenieure, Karlsruhe, Germany, spoke on the topic of "Demountable Composite Steel-Concrete Flooring System for Reuse", i.e. the reuse of structural elements in composite structures.

She worked on this topic as part of her Master thesis at the TU Delft (Netherlands) in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

With this system, which is still under development, a decisive step is also being taken with regard to sustainability, because the connection between the steel girder and the concrete supporting plate should be removable without any problems - for dismantling the structure.

The components can then be easily reused or recycled. For this highly interesting presentation, Ms von Arnim was awarded the first prize for the best presentation.

This now traditional symposium for young engineers was very well attended and at the same time offers the opportunity to present interesting projects from studies, research and engineering practice.

The symposium also enables the exchange between young and old and thus serves the transfer of knowledge and the exchange of experience.
