Together with Munich-based architects HENN, landscape architects Nowak and other participants in the planning process, KREBS+KIEFER won the first prize in the competition to design a new culture and event building in Weikersheim.

The competition jury was won over by a design for a complex consisting of two adjacent buildings that accommodate a large culture and event hall, a small rehearsal and event room, a choir room and further workrooms. The Schloss Weikersheim music academy will be the future user of the new culture and event building.

The new culture and event building will mostly be a solid timber construction. Vertical loads in the area of the event rooms will be transferred via single-axis stressed timber beams and in the area of the foyer via a grid made of glued laminated timber, whereby the columns are positioned only in the external walls surrounding the rooms.

Horizontal loads are transferred into a few internal walls via the roofing which is structured as roof panel, and from there into the subsoil. The structural elements have been minimized in order to achieve maximum flexibility in the use of the building.

Because the columns are positioned at separate points, the building has single foundations. The ground slab could therefore be designed cost-effectively as a non-load-bearing slab. The use of appropriate foundation elements ensures compliance with the foundation pressure in cost-effective and efficient manner that is appropriate for the subsoil conditions.
