Day-care facility for the University of Applied Sciences Worms
Good foundation for free development
With the construction of the day-care centre on the grounds of the University of Applied Sciences of Worms, KREBS+KIEFER took over the technical verification of the approval statics and of the execution plans as well as the site supervision.
The two-storey building, without an underground level, consists of steel concrete flat slabs and load-bearing masonry inner and outer walls. To keep the costs within the budget, it was executed as a solid construction with semi-finished parts. The location of the day-care centre is situated in the earthquake zone 1. Nevertheless, the new building is sufficiently reinforced through its ferro-concrete and brick walls so that simplified earthquake safety verification according to DIN 4149 was sufficient.
A u-shaped staircase leads to the upper floor, in the middle of which an elevator for the barrier-free entrance can be found. The required second escape route leads over an exterior loggia by means of a skeleton construction that joins in a straight steel staircase. The Loggia is fully covered by the prominent ferro-concrete ceiling of the upper floor.
