Fritz Haber Institute - Precision Laboratories Berlin
An impressive plate
The heart of the new research building is the central laser hall. KREBS+KIEFER planned it to be free of supports so that distribution and setup can be varied depending on scientists’ respective needs. As even the lowest vibrations, uneven air movements, dust and the smallest temperature and moisture fluctuations impair the function of highly sensitive devices, experts determined the optimal support structure using dynamic and construction simulations.
The institute building received a floor plate that’s up to 1.60 meters thick for its foundations, which in turn is resting on two-meter-thick rolled concrete. KREBS+KIEFER arranged for advisory vibration measurements to be taken as a basis for planning and to monitor success.
