Hospital in Blida Algeria

Functional in every situation

This hospital is located in Blida, a provincial capital about 50 km south-east of Algiers It consists of an administrative wing, two unusually large functional buildings which house all the medical facilities required by a modern district hospital, and three ward buildings for patient care.

Under the leadership of general planner KREBS+KIEFER, this task was handled by a team of architects, specialist engineers and other experts. The contract also comprised project management and the setting up of an Internet-based document management system. All correspondence and documents were produced in French.

Earthquake resistance represented a special challenge for KREBS+KIEFER in the structural design of the load bearing structure. The hospital is located in an area with the highest risk levels and must remain fully functional after an earthquake. The key to success in this project was the coordination between all those involved, with cultural differences often playing an important role.
