Technical centre for the TU Dresden Faculty for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology Dresden

Space for innovation in nano format

Administration and offices are found in the front area of the three-storey building, which, in places, has an underground level. In the east and west wings are the laboratories for researching micro- and nanostructures - and all of these require cleanrooms.

There are imposing ceiling spans of 9,60 m because the laboratories are arranged back-to-back, and are provided with daylight by the corridors that run all the way around. The entire technical centre was designed for very high live loads (10kN/m²) and therefore offers the greatest flexibility for occupying the space, and even enables the space to be used for entirely different purposes at a later point in time.

The supporting structure in the laboratory area has very high vibration specifications. As a result of the additional dynamic structural analyses, a two-metre-thick spread foundation and a 48-centimetre-thick flat ceiling were chosen. In order to reduce the strain of these hefty ceilings while maintaining the same rigidity, hollow Cobiax panels were used.
