Siemens Healthineers Forchheim

Campus for Innovation in medical technologies

In Forchheim KREBS+KIEFER took on the structural design of the largest building of the city of Forch-heim, a production and development facility, which will be a research and development center for x-ray-based imaging systems and imaging systems for medical engineering.

Space for ready-to-use research units had to be considered for the basement of the combined office and laboratory space. This made 17m spans necessary, which could be achieved with the help of bind-ing beam ceilings. However, the supports in the basement had to be offset by 30cm vis-à-vis the sup-ports at the facade of the building because of that. A massive beam structure facilitates the static de-flection of the loads while still presenting a harmonious look from the outside.

A cantilevered steel composite structure serves to get the desired and representative effect for the light-flooded foyer. In addition to the actual new structure, KREBS+KIEFER planned an 80m long bridge made of glass-encased steel lattice as the connection between the new construction and the existing building.
