In Mainz city centre, Wohnbau Mainz is involved with the construction of a four-floor housing development with 33 flats in the upper floors and general floor space, and parking areas in the basement. The flats are leased to the Mainz-based VIS-a-VIS association, which provides shared ownership accessible flats for the 50-plus age group.

The building has a rectangular ground plan and has been designed as a solid construction with ferroconcrete ceilings and supporting brick walls. The floor and ground water conditions required a supporting floor slab and, for the basement, a design impermeable to water with additional sealing on the outside. KREBS+KIEFER designed the load-bearing structure as an in-situ concrete construction with the option of a semi-prefabricated form of construction in order to increase the chances of a cost-effective solution by means of an open tender, which was as competitive as possible.

Thermal break elements with increased insulation thickness on the mounted prefabricated balconies ensure thermal separation and thus minimisation of the thermal bridges. The building is also designed to use a photovoltaic facility.
