Sewage Treatment Plant Gross-Gerau

A solution, despite missing plans

On behalf of Gross-Gerau public utilities, KREBS+KIEFER took over the structural design of various modifications and new buildings on the site of the central sewage treatment plant in Gross-Gerau. Since there were gaps in the original reinforcement plans, the engineers decided upon electromagnetic sounding (Ferroscan) of the affected building components. This allowed the existing buildings to be included in the modifications, while staying within budget.

The new structures – a screening building, a sand trap and a primary settling basin – received elastically bedded base slab foundations, which involved some work taking place below the groundwater table. In view of the soil conditions, the experts concluded that it would be possible to keep these areas free of inflowing groundwater with pumps.
