Industrial canal near the university Freiburg im Breisgau
A sparkling matter
A technical examination of the canal section by KREBS+KIEFER revealed considerable damage. As the industrial canal supplies small hydroelectric plants and industrial plants, there was very little time to rectify the deficiencies.
KREBS+KIEFER planned the work from supporting the trough walls to the renovation of the existing stream walls and the partial renovation of the superstructure with semi-finished parts, with the result that the canal, as planned, was back in operation after just six weeks. During drainage, a barrier of sandbags with pipes integrated into them served to divert the residual water from the road and bank to the construction site. With the re-profiling of the canal wall, a strong rebound of shotcrete was anticipated due to the cramped conditions. The experts selected a special composition for the concrete to make the rebound less severe.
