Europe Plaza Stuttgart
Europe Plaza at the Stockholm Platz in Stuttgart
The new Europe Plaza building at the Stockholm Platz in Stuttgart was completed in 2017 and now pro-vides both business and office space directly across from the “Bibliothek des 21. Jahrhunderts” [Library of the 21st Century] plaza.
The building is designed as a square building with courtyard. It consists of a basement, the ground floor, five upper floors, as well as a mezzanine floor. The upper floors are used exclusively for office use and the remaining areas for restaurants, doctors’ offices and retail stores. The ground floor is side-filled with earth because the new building is located on an artificial hill. The side facing the slope is designated to hold engineering rooms and the underground garage exit.
Part of the courtyard is on the ground floor level; the other part is located on the first upper floor level. The two levels are connected with a grand staircase design. Highly stressed supports in the ceiling above the first basement level had to be relieved with connector beams because of the traffic lanes and parking space layout.
KREBS+KIEFER provided the structural design in all service phases.
