Am Cavalier Holstein Mainz
Accommodation with future prospects
The “Am Cavalier Holstein” living quarters represent the realisation of a model project for Wohnbau Mainz: the elderly and disabled people living there can be provided with elderly care and nursing services in their own accommodation, if required. To this end, 100 accessible flats are being built in Martin-Luther-Park. The two types of building, with four and five floors respectively, are designed as a solid construction with ferroconcrete ceilings and supporting brick walls. The floor and ground water conditions required a supporting floor slab and, for the basement, a design impermeable to water with additional sealing on the outside.
The quality of the subsoil under buildings 4 to 6 in the second construction phase was much worse, which is why the load-bearing structure was modified: in order to introduce the building loads into the subsoil in a way compatible with the stresses and strains, the sublevel here was designed as a rigid concrete basement with overlapping floor slabs. The design of the load-bearing structure focused on ensuring that construction was as cost-effective as possible, and was further optimised during the design phase.
