European Central Bank Frankfurt am Main

A different construction site on every corner

The new headquarters of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt Ostend is composed of a double office tower, an installation in the renovated Großmarkthalle dating to 1928, and an entrance building.

KREBS+KIEFER planned and coordinated health and safety protections, including construction site and fire safety regulations, as well as preparing instructional and briefing documents for the companies. The coordinator joined in the weekly construction meetings in order to reconcile the safety concept in a timely manner with the planned work and changes in the schedule.

Parallel with the demolition of the annex buildings in the Großmarkthalle, construction began on the high-rise buildings. Here it became vital to control access to the building site and to secure the construction pit against earth slides. Because of the neighbouring residential area, it was necessary to adopt measures protecting the residents from noise and dust pollution.

The in-depth planning and preparation, as well as the uncompromising efforts at prevention and persuasion onsite contributed to the fact that the long-lasting construction work proceeded without incident or injury.
