Underground station Pankstrasse Berlin

Berlin underworld

The underground station Pankstrasse in the Berlin district of Gesundbrunnen has been operating since 1977, and with its adjoining premises also serves as a civil defence shelter for more than 3,300 people. KREBS+KIEFER developed the fire safety concept in connection with the planned reconstruction work.

When assessing the fire safety measures as a whole and determining new evacuation and rescue routes, the adjacent installations rooms had to be taken into account as did the exhibition rooms of the "Berliner Unterwelten". Because of the existing landmark status, the fire protection officers combined constructional with technical safety measures in many places.
