Underground station Adenauerplatz Berlin
Around 170 underground and aboveground metro stations form the Berlin public transport network, carrying some 250,000 people through the city on a daily basis. At the underground station Adenauerplatz in the district of Charlottenburg, renovations were due – the construction of a new stairway, a lift for barrier-free access and renovation of adjoining installation rooms.
With this in mind, KREBS+KIEFER designed the fire safety concept. Because in underground stations smoke is discharged via the evacuation routes, these must be kept free of smoke in case of fire until all those present are in safety. In order to verify this, the engineers contrast the evacuation calculation with a fire and smoke as simulation.
