Bypass Köthen

Powerful East-West connection

The extension of the federal highway 6n connects the A14 motorway at Bernburg and the A9 motorway in the Dessau/Bitterfeld area. The Köthen bypass crosses a land area of early historic importance, which is evidenced by archaeological excavations.

The new section covers a surface of approximately 285 hectares, with a built-up stretch of 7.75 kilometres in length with lateral alternating passing lanes. In the sense of a crossroads-free progression, the shifting of six crossing roads was also necessary.

The B6n is an established large and heavy transport road (GST) in Sachsen-Anhalt, which has to meet the requirements of the coming years. Two vital bridges are equipped with bypass routes for the heavy traffic. With landfills and special lawn grid plates, these convergence points for the expected weight were expanded and turfed.

A follow-up assessment of the building ground resulted in a recalculation of the drainage systems. Due to the fact that three water retaining basins could be omitted, the built-up area and the maintenance costs could be reduced.
