FRANKLIN Mannheim construction logistics: Planning and supervision
A new and lively urban district is to be developed in Mannheim on the once largest US-owned property in Germany. About 4000 residential units are to be created to accommodate at least 8000 people. KREBS+KIEFER was put in charge of planning and supervision of the construction logistics.
The duties of workflow planning included identifying and analyzing all transportation routes and the co-ordination of space for the interim use and storage of recycling materials. From a logistical point of view, a smooth construction schedule could only be maintained by optimizing the traffic flow. Special space management facilitated the optimized use of all available spatial resources. The safety on con-struction sites was able to be increased thanks to a newly developed safety concept where theft and vandalism as well as illegal employment could be ruled out for the most part. The entire conceptual plan-ning process led to a construction logistics manual which became an integral part of the construction contracts for individual awards of demolition and development jobs.
