Wendlingen – Ulm railway line, “Alb plateau” Hohenstadt - Dornstadt

Progress in parallel

A new dual track line with a consistent high speed of 250 kilometres per hour should relieve the burden on the much travelled Stuttgart - Ulm - Augsburg line. As part of an engineering consortium, KREBS+KIEFER was responsible for on-site supervision of the 21.4 kilometre-long section of line across the Alb plateau (PFA 2.3).

Combining this step with the development of the A8 state motorway should minimise the impact on the ecology and enable synergies. In addition to managing the construction supervision and controlling costs and deadlines, close coordination with all parties involved was thus a key focus for KREBS+KIEFER. Because of the karstified subsoil of the Alb plateau, seismic and gravimetric analyses were needed below the foundation level of the section, up to 30 metres deep in places, in order to rule out or resolve any geological anomalies. KREBS+KIEFER provided support for this.
