Airport Leipzig/Halle

Landing on time

Leipzig/Halle airport is not just for passengers; it is DHL's major aviation hub. The project "Southern runway with aprons" – realised incidentally during the ongoing operation of the existing northern runway – included countless components: a 12.5 km long taxiway system, 55 ha of aircraft parking areas, almost 15 km of security fences with electric gates and waste water disposal facilities with a water retention volume of 380.000 m3. It also included a navigation system with almost 6.000 signal lights, an electricity supply and communications equipment with about 30 km of conduit, apron lighting and docking systems – and finally an air freight loading station and bridges.

The project included over 80 individual measures, most of which were realised in parallel. KREBS+KIEFER was responsible for site supervision and management in cooperation with an additional engineering company. The composition of the team was adapted to requirements in the course of the project, ensuring the seamless functioning of all structural measures.
