German pension insurance Berlin

Pensions re-calculated

An office building is being constructed for around 1.000 employees of the largest German statutory pension insurance scheme. KREBS+KIEFER was responsible for the structural engineering of part B, located at Eisenzahnstraße 32.

In addition to fulfilling the numerous requirements for the new building, the engineers also came up with surprisingly smart solutions on several occasions. The ground floor will house a print shop and a post office branch. According to the static approach of using interior partitions as wall-like structures, the area concerned can be used in an extremely flexible way.

Supporting balustrades and special steel constructions were designed to implement wide-spanned ceilings in the inner courtyards despite extensive roof greening, plus a penthouse level on the fifth floor. The architectural design did not allow for superstructures on the roof. This was overcome with the help of a slim, overhanging steel construction.

A Vierendeel truss forms the bridge to the existing building. The supporting panes mean that no fixtures need to be installed on the existing building, thereby avoiding a more expensive renovation.
