Neckar lock Pleidelsheim

New standards combined with a historic look

After over 60 years of operation, the lock is going to be thoroughly overhauled. One of the chambers is going to be extended by 25 metres and will be fitted with new gates; the second chamber will probably be closed. As a first step, KREBS+KIEFER is taking measurements of the existing structure and preparing a report on the condition of the concrete. With the design planning and structural engineering, the engineers will be working in accordance with the specifications issued by the company responsible for the hydraulic steel structure, and in accordance with the latest standards with respect to the work required to restore stability.

As the lock is a listed structure, the towers of the old lifting gates at the top must be retained. Clarifying the question as to how this is to be done despite the extensive demolition and conversion work requires a high level of coordination. KREBS+KIEFER is also responsible for handling the further phases, including site supervision – the Office of Neckar Development in Heidelberg will request provision of these services step by step.
