Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Günter Ernst celebrated his 65th birthday on 15th October 2012. He can look back with pride and satisfaction on a productive and successful career which now spans more than 40 years.
After a bricklaying apprenticeship and training at the state school of engineering in Idstein, he took on a position as a graduate engineer with Ingenieurbüro Mehmel-Krebs in Darmstadt. At the same time, he studied at Technische Hochschule Darmstadt where he was awarded a diploma in civil engineering in 1974.
Today, he still works for KREBS+KIEFER, Beratende Ingenieure für das Bauwesen, as the engineering consultancy founded by Prof. Mehmel in 1950 is now known. He has been a managing partner since 1994 and has also made a major contribution to its strategic development as a managing director of its partnership company over many years.
Günter Ernst has been an officially appointed checking engineer for building statics since 1997, for all three types of construction – metal, concrete and timber – which is a rarity in Germany. He is active in the checking engineers’ association Bundesvereinigung der Prüfingenieure für Baustatik (VPI) and was a member of its executive committee from 2006 to 2010. Among other topics, he worked on the testing of the new European structural design norms (Eurocodes) which are currently having a major impact on the construction industry.
During his long career as a structural designer and checking engineer, Günter Ernst made significant contributions to the further development and conservation of our building infrastructure. His high-profile projects include:
- Nordwestzentrum shopping mall, Frankfurt am Main
- Central waste water treatment plant, Darmstadt
- ALLIANZ-Kai office complex, Frankfurt am Main
- THE SQUAIRE complex on top of the long-distance railway station at Frankfurt Airport
- Judicial buildings, Darmstadt
- Umweltbundesamt (federal environment agency), Dessau
- Representation building for the state of Hesse, Berlin
Günter Ernst is known for his high technical competence, which, in combination with excellent social competence, has made him a respected partner of his customers and business associates and a motivator for his staff: essential qualities for successfully leading an engineering consultancy. His ongoing commitment has been a significant factor in the development of KREBS+KIEFER to one of Germany’s leading engineering enterprises.
In recognition of his technical achievements and for his service to Hochschule Darmstadt, where he has held a lectureship in concrete construction since 1997, Günter Ernst was appointed honorary professor by the university in 2006.
The partners and staff of KREBS+KIEFER warmly congratulate Günter Ernst on this special birthday and wish him health and strength to continue to enjoy his work with us!
