With the appointment of Dipl.-Ing. Roger Istel as Checking Engineer for struc­tu­ral stability in the field of metal construction by the District President in Darm­stadt in January 2012, our Darmstadt office has further expanded its team of che­cking engineers, as have our offices in Berlin and Erfurt.

Because of his outstanding performance, especially in the areas of building and steel construction, Mr. Istel was also appointed Managing Partner on 1st Ja­nu­a­ry 2012 and will combine this role with his activities as a checking engineer in Darmstadt.

Mr. Istel studied civil engineering at the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt (now renamed Technische Universität Darmstadt) from 1984 to 1990. His final year project and his diploma thesis were produced in the department for structural design. Through his final year project on generalized technical bending theory, he was able to substantially expand his knowledge of cross-section mechanics, and he still benefits from this today, as he says himself.

Mr. Istel has worked for Krebs und Kiefer in Darmstadt since 1990 and has used his skills in diverse areas of building construction. He was involved in many pro­jects at Frankfurt Airport, starting with the checking of the structural design for Terminal 2 and later working on the expansion of the PTS system and on Eu­ro­port. His activities included special tasks such as the design and au­tho­ri­za­tion planning for signal brackets on sections of the Berlin city railway which have historic monument status.

Mr. Istel’s talent for complicated structures and their structural calculations became apparent at an early stage. He played an important role in the structural design of the new roof of Berlin’s Olympic Stadium and of the spectacular MyZeil shopping mall in Frankfurt. He has an outstanding spatial sense which enables him to quickly grasp and assess even the most complex structures.

He has been able to put his knowledge and skills to excellent use as an overall project leader, for instance for THE SQUAIRE at Frankfurt Airport and for the Skyline Plaza in Frankfurt’s Europaviertel.
