Inauguration of the research and development centre of the Deutsche Amphibolin-Werke (DAW) in Gerstungen
At the location in Gerstungen, the new research and development centre of DAW SE (Deutsche Amphibolin-Werke) was inaugurated on 28 August 2017.The centre consists of an office building with laboratory spaces and a hall with workspaces for inspection and application technology. The construction sum is around €4.7 million.
21st Structural Design Seminar at the Technical University of Dresden
On 20 October 2017, Professor Jan Akkermann, a member of the teaching staff at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, and Managing Director at KREBS+KIEFER, spoke at the long-established Dresden structural design seminar regarding methods for the seismic design of megastructures.
Commencement of tunnelling works of the Herrschaftsbuck Tunnel in Rheinfelden
The construction of an important element of the Upper Rhine Motorway, the A 98 motorway was started on the 27 July 2017 with the solemn commencement of tunnelling works of the Herrschaftsbuck Tunnel. The Federal Government contributed around EUR 85 million and the State of Baden-Württemberg EUR 9 million to the total investment. The cost of the building shell construction is around 38 million euros. The two tunnel bores, each 480 meters long, will be completed in June 2019. KREBS + KIEFER is responsible for the safety and health coordination of this project.

On 15 October 2017, Professor Günter Ernst celebrated his 70th birthday. With 48 years of service at KREBS+KIEFER, 23 of which have been as Managing Director, he is undoubtedly one of the most important figures within our company. Professor Ernst is also celebrating his 20-year anniversary as a test engineer for building statics.In addition to his outstanding professional life as an engineer, which was celebrated on the occasion of his 65th birthday, Professor Ernst is also well known as a corporate personality who has been involved in shaping the KREBS+KIEFER Group in the many and varied phases of an engineering company. Ground-breaking ceremony at the B8 bridge over the dock railway in Frankfurt am Main
On 31 July 2017, the ground-breaking ceremony for the renovation of the bridge on the Hanau secondary road over the dock railway in Frankfurt – Osten took place in the presence of representatives from the Federal Office for Road Construction and Hessen Mobil.As part of this project, KREBS+KIEFER has been commissioned to look after the site management.

KREBS+KIEFER has for years been successfully supporting major projects with their construction logistics. Whether in terms of obtaining approval such as with the FAIR project in Darmstadt, traffic and safety aspects for sensitive projects such as FRANKLIN in Mannheim, or the DomRömer project quoted in the discussion, which involves the development of the old town in Frankfurt, the engineers from KREBS+KIEFER are always finding the perfect solutions to prepare the implementation phase of construction projects, to take provisional measures and to avoid expensive interim solutions, and thus make a substantial contribution to achieving cost assurance, deadlines and quality assurance.
Start of construction for the Netratal Bridge at Sontra/Eschwege
The Netratal Bridge is part of the new construction project of the A44 from Kassel to Herleshausen and crosses above the Netratal and the B7. In June 2017, the initial foundations for the piers and abutments were cast in concrete in accordance with the plans provided by KREBS+KIEFER. The construction of the bridge was carried out by the construction company Hoch-, Tief- und Industriebau GmbH (HTI Greußen) on behalf of DEGES. For this construction project, KREBS+KIEFER carried out on behalf of HTI the implementation planning and prepared the construction drawings (phases 4 and 5 of the structural engineering).
Opening of the Platz der alten Synagoge in Freiburg
On 2 August 2017, the Platz der alten Synagoge was opened to the public after a redevelopment period of almost 16 months. KREBS+KIEFER planned and was involved with extensive renovation work for the Gewerbekanals that traverses it.
Groundbreaking ceremony for the extension and renovation of the Jakob Brucker High School in Kaufbeuren
The official construction start for the expansion and renovation of the Jakob Brucker High School in Kaufbeuren was celebrated on 26 July 2017 with a symbolic groundbreaking as part of the school festival. This was the beginning of a comprehensive modernization and expansion of the school complex with a total investment of around 22 million euros, in which KREBS+KIEFER from locations in Karlsruhe and Munich is responsible for complete structural engineering planning.
Appointment of Dr Sven Huismann as authorized signatory
With effect from 1 July 2017, Dr (in Technology) Sven Huismann was given joint power of signatory for the company.Dr Huismann has been working at KREBS+KIEFER since 2011 and successfully heads the fire protection department in Berlin.
Ground-breaking ceremony for the new building of the Leonardo da Vinci Gymnasium in Berlin
The new building of the five-storey high school is designed for around 900 pupils and is characterised by its open and bright design. The school is a pilot project based around energy-optimised and sustainable construction of schools in the Federal state of Berlin. With a construction volume of around EUR 30 million, the new building of the Leonardo da Vinci Gymnasium represents an important component of the expansion of the infrastructure of the region of Neukölln.
Laying of the foundation stone for the Fraunhofer Institute for the IPM Physical Metrology in Freiburg
With the ceremonial burial of a "time capsule", the official start of the construction of the new Fraunhofer IPM Institute was marked on 4 July, 2017, on the grounds of the old airport. With the total investment of around EUR 60 million, KREBS+KIEFER are responsible for structural engineering and building physics for the labs and institute buildings.
30 years of KREBS+KIEFER in Karlsruhe
On 1 April 1987, the first branch of KREBS+KIEFER was opened in Karlsruhe. At the same time, KREBS+KIEFER Ingenieure GmbH, with headquarters in Karlsruhe, represents our engineering company at locations in Freiburg, Stuttgart and Munich. That was enough of a reason to celebrate the big day on 30 June, 2017 with a large summer party for our staff and their families.What began with an external site for the Forst Tunnel Project of the new Mannheim-Karlsruhe route has grown into an engineering company with more than 100 employees and thus an integral part of the nationwide KREBS+KIEFER Group. Since then, the company has overseen over 2,000 projects, both deep under the ground and high up in the sky.
Deutsche Amphibolin-Werke: Inauguration of the new company head-quarters
Over the last three years, DAW SE (Deutsche Amphibolin-Werke) in Ober-Ramstadt has been building a new company headquarters for more than 170 employees. The first stage of this extensive project was selecting a suitable architect, and the decision was made in 2012 to use the architectural office Brückner + Brückner.KREBS+KIEFER was responsible for project management and since then has supported DAW SE with this and other projects, such as the renovation of the directly adjoining existing building, dating from the 1960s, and the building of a new logistics centre, including support with the high-level storage facil-ities, planning and on-site supervision.

Commissioning of KREBS+KIEFER for the exciting large-scale project FOUR in Frankfurt am Main On the former Deutsche Bank-area between Rossmarkt, Grosse Gallusstrasse and Neue Schlesingergasse, four high-rises, FOUR, will be completed by 2022. The four towers include a 100 m high office tower, two 175m high residential high-rises and 225m high hotel and office tower.In addition, numerous restaurants, shops and a daycare centre are planned for the buildings. The base of the high-rise will also feature a roof garden, which will be open to the public.Demolition of the existing development is scheduled to begin by the end of 2017.a
Meeting of the experts responsible for bridge load assessment (FvBel) of the German Railways (DB) from 25/01/2017-26/01/2017 in Fulda
To this year's meeting of the experts responsible for bridge load assessments KREBS+KIEFER was invited by DB (German Railways) Network AG to deliver a lecture on the experience in the testing of existing bridges.The subject of the lecture was the DB concept for railway bridges with stress-prone pre-stressed steel, which are awaiting trial implementation.
Ground-breaking ceremony for the Güntzareal in Dresden
On 23 May 2017, construction work for the extension building to the headquarters of the Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden bank began with the symbolic turning of the first spadeful of earth. On the until now unused area by Güntzplatz Square, a “Quarters of the Generations” is to be built in addition to the extension building, which will shape the development of the Dresden district of Johannstadt for a long time to come. For the newly to be built state-of-the-art administration building, directly adjacent to the current existing heritage building, KREBS+KIEFER is handling the planning of the support structure, the structural physics and the preventive fire safety in full.
High-ranking visitors from China in Niederfinow
On 30 May 2017, KREBS+KIEFER had the pleasure of welcoming a high-ranking company delegation from China to the construction site of the new Niederfinow boat lift. Headed by Mr. Lu Chun, Chairman of the Three Gorges Corporation, the group of experts consulted head project manager of the Office for new construction of waterways (WNA) Berlin, Mr. Peter Huth, about the experiences gained during construction.The public China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) as one of the largest power supply companies worldwide, is builder and operator of the Three Gorges Dam By the Yangtze River. KREBS+KIEFER on behalf of CTG in cooperation with Lahmeyer International had produced the draft tender for the largest boat lift worldwide.
Dr. Sören Mueller to give a lecture at NANODUR Dyckerhoff
On 3 May 2017, the "10 years NANODUR Concrete" anniversary event took place at Dyckerhoff in Kirchheimbolanden. As an outstanding KREBS + KIEFER scientist in this field, Dr. Mueller was invited to give a lecture on "The UHPC parabolic troughs made of Nanodur concrete for solar thermal power plants".As one of twelve speakers, Dr. Mueller reported on his experience before an interdisciplinary audience of around 100 engineers from a wide range of backgrounds from the fields of construction and mechanical engineering.
Laying of the foundation stone for the new Mainz Archaeological Centre building
After completing the excavation pit and removing the remaining historical stonework, on 5th May 2017 there was a celebration for the laying of the foundation stone for the new Römisch-Germanische Zentralmuseum (RGZM - Romano-German Central Museum) building - the 51 million euro Archaeological Centre - in the southern part of the old town in the federal state capital Mainz. “The Giant”, as the new building is termed by Prof. Konrad Wolf, the Minister for Economics, Further Education and Culture, and Michael Ebling, the Mayor of Mainz, will become the new home for the RGZM from 2020.
Kienlesberg Bridge Move in Ulm Successful
With the latest of the eleven moves and the hoisting of the twelfth section on 29 April 2017, the shunting operation of the construction for the new public transport, pedestrian and cycling bridge was successfully completed. Since the award of the contract in 2012, KREBS + KIEFER have been working alongside with Knight Architects from the UK to carry out a complete project and load bearing structure planning for the 270 m long construction.
German Construction Technology Day 2017 with KREBS+KIEFER
Dialogue. Innovation. Quality.Under these inspirations, between 26 and 27 April 2017, around 1,500 visitors took part in the Congress of the German Concrete and Construction Technology Association (DBV) in Stuttgart. KREBS+KIEFER was also actively involved again this year. In the International Congress Center Stuttgart (ICS) of the Messe Stuttgart at the airport, various talks in 13 specialist sessions reflected the current spectrum of construction technology. Dr (in Engineering) Hans-Gerd Lindlar, Managing Director of KREBS+KIEFER, chaired the conference on high-rise, industrial and commercial construction.
Dresden Bridge Construction Symposium 2017
On 13 and 14 March 2017, the 27th traditional bridge building symposium took place at the Technical University of Dresden. With around 1,250 participants, the meeting of bridge builders and civil engineers was very well attended, as it is every year.
Opening of the terminal of the rolling motorway in Freiburg im Breisgau

Erfurt arena opened
On 22 January 2017, it finally came to pass! Two years after the start of the structural alterations to the venerable Steigerwaldstadion in Erfurt, the opening celebrations took place for the redesigned sports venue, which cost approx. €39.4 million. The modern multifunction arena will be used in future for football and athletics, while the main building will accommodate congresses, conventions, seminars and trade fairs with space for up to 2,000 guests. The stadium accommodates 18,600 spectators, and with concerts up to 30,000 visitors.
Ground breaking ceremony for the new construction of the Armed Forces Technical School in Karlsruhe
A symbolic, ground breaking ceremony on the 9th March marked the beginning of construction works for the new building of the tradition-rich, Armed Forces Technical School in Karlsruhe. The keynote speaker stood before numerous guests, politicians, the German Army, Federal Administration and project participants, and emphasised the significance of the Karlsruhe site as a training centre for the Armed Forces. KREBS+KIEFER is entrusted with the structural physics’ planning services of the construction project.
Hessen Fire Protection Day 2017 in Neu-Isenburg
On 28 March 2017, architects, planners and those involved in planning met in the Hugenottenhalle in Neu-Isenburg at the Hessen Fire Protection Day so as to discuss current themes in planned fire protection. The expert management and moderation was provided by Professor Dr Ulrich Dietmann, Managing Director of KREBS + KIEFER Ingenieure GmbH, Darmstadt.
Ulrich Finsterwalder Civil Engineering Award 2017
On 10 February 2017 the shiplift at the Three Gorges dam, China received a prize as part of the 15th Civil Engineering Award 2017. Thanks to the design by KREBS+KIEFER in cooperation with Lahmeyer International, China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) successfully set a world record: The structure, designed for ships with up to 3,000 tons displacement, and lifting height of up to 113 m, is the largest of its kind.

With effect from 1 January 2017, Dipl.-Phys. Peter Fritz took up his position as a member to the newly established KREBS+KIEFER FRITZ AG management board. On 1 January 2017, KREBS+KIEFER FRITZ AG opened its Darmstadt office. KREBS + KIEFER FRITZ AG is the company which has been formed from the merger of the soundproofing division of KREBS + KIEFER Ingenieure GmbH Darmstadt and FRITZ GmbH from Einhausen.
Appointment of Mr Fabian Ruhl as Managing Director
Dr.-Ing. Fabian Ruhl is assuming the role of managing the construction management division in Darmstadt effective as of 01 January 2017. This is another step towards meeting the structural requirements for further growth in KREBS+KIEFER’s construction management activities. At the same time, Dr.-Ing. Foundation stone laying for new vocational training and technology centre in Trier
The foundation stone of the new vocational training and technology centre of the Trier Chamber of Crafts was laid on 7 December 2016.The sinking of a copper "time capsule", which contains building plans and contemporary history documents, marked the highlight of the solemn ceremony.
